Liverpool Cruise Port welcomes first fully electric shuttle bus
Liverpool Cruise Port has taken delivery of the first of two new fully electric Karsan e-JEST buses, marking another positive step in the port’s journey towards a cleaner, quieter and more sustainable operation.
The new electric buses will support the passenger shuttle service on the quayside, helping cruise guests move safely and comfortably between key areas of the port operation.
Once both vehicles are in service, the electric buses will replace the need for diesel shuttle buses operating in the port. This will help reduce emissions, improve air quality and create a quieter and more comfortable environment for cruise guests, crew, port staff and the wider waterfront community.
The project has been delivered in partnership with Liverpool Cruise Port’s partner, Presidential Travel, which provides the shuttle bus service at the port and continues to work closely with the team to support safe, efficient and responsible cruise operations.
John Mawer, General Manager, Global Ports Holding UK, said:
“Introducing electric vehicles into our port operation at Liverpool Cruise Port is a practical step towards reducing emissions, modernising our fleet and demonstrating our commitment to a more sustainable future for the port and our community.
“We thank our port partner Presidential Travel for joining us on this sustainability journey and for working with us to improve the passenger experience while reducing the environmental impact of our port operations.”
Phil Hislop, Transport Manager at Presidential Travel, said:
“Liverpool is one of the UK’s most iconic cruise destinations, and it’s important that transport services reflect the city’s ambition and innovation.
“This new electric shuttle helps create a cleaner environment around the waterfront while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
“It also demonstrates what can be achieved when partners share the same vision for sustainability, accessibility and customer service.”
The arrival of the first electric shuttle bus forms part of Liverpool Cruise Port’s wider commitment to improving the sustainability of its operation while continuing to support the growth of cruise in the city.
The buses will also contribute to an improved guest experience, offering a quieter and cleaner shuttle journey for passengers arriving at and departing from Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.
Liverpool Cruise Port looks forward to welcoming the second electric vehicle into service in the coming weeks.
